MRI Self Referral Terms & Conditions
Eligibility
MRI scans are available for patients aged 12 years and over.
Self-referral is only available for individuals aged 18 and above.
Patients under the age of 18 must be referred by a qualified healthcare professional. To carry out a referral then practitioners must be registered with The Hanham Clinic as a referrer.
Clinical Requirement
MRI scans are performed only where there is a clear clinical concern or symptoms.
We do not provide MRI scans for general reassurance or screening purposes in the absence of symptoms. We do not carry out full body scans.
All self-referrals must include a clear description of symptoms and reason for the scan request.
Referral Review
All self-referrals are subject to clinical review prior to acceptance.
The Hanham Clinic reserves the right to decline a referral, request further clinical information, or recommend an alternative pathway or referral via a healthcare professional.
If you have been under management from a healthcare practitioner, we reserve the right to decline the self referral and request a formal referral from your practitioner.
Scope of Service
MRI scans are limited to areas routinely performed within our musculoskeletal imaging service.
If a requested scan is not appropriate or outside our scope, we will advise accordingly.
Patient Responsibility
By proceeding with a self-referral, you acknowledge that you are selecting the area to be scanned based on your own understanding of your symptoms.
You understand that this service does not replace a full clinical assessment by a GP or specialist.
GP Requirement
All self-referring patients must be registered with a UK GP practice.
Valid GP details must be provided at the time of booking.
The Hanham Clinic will share the MRI report with your GP and may liaise with them where clinically appropriate.
We are unable to proceed with a self-referral without GP details.
Results and Follow-Up
A formal radiology report will be produced following your scan.
Ongoing diagnosis, treatment, and clinical management should be undertaken with your GP or an appropriate healthcare professional.
Your MRI scan and fee does NOT include further follow up and consultation regarding the most appropriate plan of management for your condition.
Patients may choose to book a consultation at The Hanham Clinic to discuss results, or seek advice on the most appropriate specialist or healthcare provider.
Serious or Urgent Findings
If a scan identifies serious or clinically significant pathology, this will be communicated directly to a responsible healthcare professional such as your GP as a priority.
In line with our duty of care, these findings may not be released directly to the patient until appropriate clinical follow-up has been arranged.
Exclusions
The Hanham Clinic may not accept self-referrals in cases including absence of clinical symptoms, complex or serious underlying medical conditions requiring specialist-led care, or cases where imaging is not clinically appropriate.
Payment
All self-referral MRI scans are provided on a self-pay basis. An invoice will be provided following the completion of your scan. A deposit of 50% of the value of your scan is required at the time of booking to secure your appointment. The remaining balance is payable at your scan appointment.
These services are not funded by the NHS. If using private medical insurance or a medical cash-plan scheme, it is your responsibility to ensure they will reimburse you for our services. We do not directly engage with private medical insurance companies to arrange or authorise billing on your behalf.
Acceptance of Policy
By proceeding with a self-referral booking, you confirm that you have read and understood this policy.
